Accident on Lake Shore drive today: In Streeterville, Chicago, early Tuesday morning, a pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by a BMW X-3 on DuSable Lake Shore Drive, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Around 5:25 a.m., two male pedestrians were attempting to cross all lanes of the 800-block of southbound North Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable Lake Shore Drive. It’s important to note that they were not using a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident.

One of the pedestrians who was struck by the BMW X-3 was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital but, sadly, did not survive their injuries. The second pedestrian, fortunately, did not sustain any injuries in the incident.

The 63-year-old male driver involved in the collision was also transported to Northwestern Hospital, reportedly experiencing symptoms of panic following the accident.

As a result of this incident, Chicago police had to block all southbound lanes at Chestnut Street, leading to significant traffic congestion that extended back to Division Street around 6:30 a.m. However, vehicles were permitted to re-enter DuSable Lake Shore Drive at Erie Street.

All southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive lanes near Chestnut were closed and delays and backups were expected after two pedestrians were struck by the driver of a BMW early Monday morning, Chicago police said.

According to officials, one of the pedestrians hit was later pronounced dead.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:35 a.m. in the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive, when two adult male pedestrians were attempting to cross all lanes of Lake Shore Drive, police said.

Police also noted that the pedestrians were not using a designated crosswalk.

According to officials, one of the pedestrians was struck by a BMW X-3 traveling southbound. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The second pedestrian was not injured, according to police.
